Red and Green Vase
Product Details
This vase was wheel thrown in stoneware clay and fired in a gas reduction kiln to 1300c. The flashing of on this vase is what makes it special. The red is were the kiln atmosphere deprived the glaze of O2 which drew iron form the clay body into the glaze, making it red. The green is where there was O2 in the kiln and the glaze didn't draw iron from the clay body. This vase is a one off and the glaze combination is reliant on the kiln atmosphere. Each one will be unique. The vase is water tight, food, microwave and dishwasher safe.
Care & Maintenance
Care Instructions for all Ceramics on this website:
These pots are dishwasher safe and food safe, although please take care, washing by hand is the best option.
All my pots are made with a high iron content clay body or porcelain clay bodies that are heavily reduction fired. This means that sharper edges can be susceptible to chipping if they’re bashed around so please handle your pots with care. I personally always hand wash my handmade pottery and tend not to use them in microwaves. Remember, this isn’t mass produced factory ceramics, each pot is individual. Additionally, you’ll notice some pieces have crackle glazes, where the glaze has cracking, this is purposeful and is still food safe due to the vitrification of the clay underneath.
However crackle glazes like this can stain naturally overtime with liquids such as tea or coffee. The pots themselves are highly vitrified and there’s nothing toxic or dangerous that can leach out from the crackle glazes. This is simply a byproduct of having such surfaces and you’ll find that crackle glazes, or crazing like this, can appear in wood fired pots, soda fired pots and salt fired wares too.
